TUDEJ is affiliated with the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing and is committed to complying with the rules and decisions of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), and the Turkish Charette of Editors within the scope of its research and publication ethics.
Duplicate Publications
Manuscripts that have been published elsewhere are not allowed for submission to the journal. The Editor reserves the right to send such manuscripts back without any review or refuse to accept submissions by the author(s) for review for a certain period of time.
Redundant Submissions
The author(s) must not submit the same manuscript simultaneously to multiple journals. If a potentially redundant submission comes to the attention of the Editor, the Editor reserves the right to consult other editors who have received the manuscript. In such a case, the Editor may send back the manuscript without review or reject it without regard to review status. The Editor shall make these decisions alone or as a result of discussions with other editors if any and may decide to refuse submissions by the author(s) for a certain period of time. In addition, the Editor may communicate this situation to the employers of the author(s) or implement all aforementioned measures simultaneously.
Prevention of Plagiarism
Manuscripts to be submitted to TUDEJ must be uploaded to Turnitin or iThenticate first, and the report produced by the relevant platform must be uploaded to the journal’s system. The similarity ratio for any manuscript must be below 15%. Otherwise, the manuscript is rejected before being sent to reviewers. The main measure of similarity ratios is whether the author abides by citation and quotation rules. Even if the similarity ratio is 1%, plagiarism may be present if references and quotations are not cited properly. In this context, the author(s) must know the rules pertaining to citations and quotations and apply these rules meticulously. Manuscripts with similarity ratios higher than academic citation standards and those that are not formatted according to the publication rules of the journal will not be reviewed. Libel, plagiarism, duplication, fraudulent authorship/denial of authorship, research/data fabrication, manuscript slicing, publication slicing, copyright infringement, and undisclosed conflicts of interest are considered unethical acts. All articles that do not comply with accepted ethical standards shall be rejected or unpublished. These include articles with potential non-compliance detected after publication.
Academic Fraud
Fabricating data that are not based on research, organizing or manipulating a submitted or published work based on false data, and reporting or publishing such works are acts that indicate the fabrication of research that has not been performed. Falsifying the records and data of a study, reporting the use of methods, devices, and materials that are not actually used in the study, excluding data that do not confirm the hypothesis of the study, and doctoring data and/or results to make them fit a theory or assumption indicate the manipulation or formatting of results in line with the interests of individuals and organizations supporting the work. Manuscripts found to be fraudulent will not be reviewed, and those already published will be unpublished. If any claim of academic misconduct is raised regarding an article published in TUDEJ, the instructions of COPE will be followed regarding the claim.
Reporting of Ethical Violations and Claims/Suspicion of Scientific Misconduct
If readers notice a significant error or falsity in an article published in TUDEJ or have any complaint regarding editorial content (e.g., plagiarism, redundant publications), they may report the issue by sending an e-mail to the address tudej@erbakan.edu.tr. TUDEJ guarantees that your submissions of any such report/information will be appreciated as an opportunity for our improvement, and your submissions will receive a prompt and constructive response.
All complaints reported to TUDEJ will be processed in confidence. The Editor shall respond to complaints immediately. The Editor shall follow the procedure in the COPE flowchart for any complaints. If/when needed, an independent party will be appointed for issues that are not resolved within the Publication/Editorial Board. The Editor-in-Chief shall make the final decision on any appeals and complaints.
TUDEJ will follow the flowchart of COPE in the case of any suspicion or claim of misconduct. If a redundant publication is suspected, plagiarism is suspected, data fabrication is suspected, changes in authorship are requested, undisclosed conflicts of interest are suspected, unfair or gift authorship is suspected, an ethical problem is suspected, a direct report of a suspected ethical violation is made via channels such as e-mail, and ethical violation via social media is suspected, the Editor shall first demand that individuals suspected of misconduct make a statement. If the statement is not satisfactory, the relevant employer or organization shall be requested to launch an inquiry. The Editor shall make all reasonable efforts to ensure a proper investigation of the claimed issue, insist on finding a solution to the issue, and take all reasonable steps in the process.
Correction, Retraction, Expression of Concern
If the Editor(s) notice minor errors that do not affect the findings, comments, and conclusions in a published article, they may publish a correction. If the Editor(s) notice major problems/violations that invalidate findings and conclusions, they may retract the article. If there is a potential of academic misconduct or publication misconduct by the author(s), if there is evidence that the findings are unreliable, and the organization of the author(s) has not investigated the matter, or if the results of such an investigation seem to be unfair or inconclusive, the Editor(s) may publish an expression of concern. The COPE and ICMJE procedures are followed in relation to corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern in the journal.
For articles determined to have ethics violations:
  • The word “Retracted” is added before the title of the article on the electronic platform.
  • The content of the Abstract and Full Text of the article on the electronic platform are replaced with the reasons for the retraction of the article, detailed evidence, and if any, the reports of the organization of the author(s) regarding the issue.
  • The retraction of the article is announced on the homepage of the journal.
  • The words “Retracted: Article Title” are included in the Table of Contents of the first journal issue published following the retraction. The reasons for the retraction of the article and original sources used as references for these reasons are shared with the public and researchers starting on the first page.
  • The retraction announcements described above are shared with the organization(s) with which the author(s) are affiliated.
  • The retraction announcements described above are shared with the organizations and institutions at which the journal is indexed and the National Library of Turkey for records in their indexes and catalogs.
The Publication Board may recommend the publishers of the previous articles of the author(s) in violation or the publication boards of these platforms to ensure the validity and reliability of their published work or retract such published work.
Ethics committee approvals
In order to guarantee ethical conduct in periodical scientific publishing, TUDEJ abides by the principles of the “Code of Conduct for Journal Editors”, the “Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors”, and the “Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Publishers” by COPE. Accordingly, manuscripts submitted to the journal must comply with the following rules:
  • Ethics committee approval must be obtained for all studies in all scientific fields that require ethics committee approval. This approval must be reported in the manuscript, and it must be documented.
  • For studies requiring ethics committee approval, approval information (ethics committee name, decision date, and decision number) must be included in the Materials and Methods section of the text. Additionally, information about the signing of an informed permission/consent form must be included on either the first or last page of the manuscript for case reports.
It is the responsibility of the author(s) to protect the confidentiality of the identifying information of their participants.
Special Issue and Supplementary Issue (Conference Abstracts) Publication Policy
Special or supplementary issues can be published upon the decision of the Publication Board of TUDEJ.
Editorial Responsibility for Confidentiality
TUDEJ editors process all texts sent to them as confidential documents, meaning that they will not disclose information about a text to any other party without the permission of its author(s). During the manuscript review process, the following persons can access the manuscript: Editors, Reviewers, and Members of the Publication Board. The only case in which the details of a text shall be shared with a third party without the permission of the author(s) is the Editor’s suspicion of serious academic misconduct by the author(s).
Author responsibility and conflicts of interest
All responsibilities for articles published in the journal (e.g., ethical, scientific, and legal responsibilities) fall upon the author(s). The Publication Board decides whether to review manuscripts that are not prepared according to writing rules. All publication rights of articles accepted for publication belong to the journal. These rights are documented with the signatures of all authors on the Publication Rights Transfer Form. A Copyright Transfer Form signed by the corresponding author must be sent to the journal via the submission system of the journal. A separate form must be provided for each manuscript. Manuscripts that are submitted without a Copyright Transfer Form will not be accepted. The authors must guarantee that they will not send the work in question to another journal, they have not published it elsewhere in its original language or another language, and the work in question will not be used by any third party without the written permission of TUDEJ. If the manuscript is rejected, it is accepted that the copyright of the work is restored to the author(s).
The author(s) must provide information on whether there is a financial conflict of interest in any stage of their work including but not limited to data collection, writing, and language editing. Commercial sponsorship for the work in question, if any, must be disclosed. TUDEJ demands and encourages the disclosure of existing or potential conflicts of interest, including financial, institutional, or other relationships that could lead to a conflict of interest or bias, by the authors and other individuals involved in the review stages of the study.
